The dos and don'ts of drying curly hair

Are you drying your curls the right way? It might sound simple, but how you dry your hair can make a huge difference in your curl's health, shape, and overall fabulosity! Let's dive into some essential dos and don’ts to ensure you’re giving your curls the love they deserve while drying.

1. DO: Use a Microfibre Towel or a Cotton T-Shirt
Ditch the rough bath towels and switch to a microfibre towel or a soft cotton T-shirt. These gentle fabrics help reduce frizz and absorb just the right amount of moisture without disrupting your curl pattern.

2. DON’T: Rub Your Hair
Rubbing your hair with a towel can create friction and lead to breakage and frizz. Instead, gently scrunch your hair with your microfibre towel to encourage natural curl formation while removing excess water.

3. DO: Apply Products to Damp Hair
Your hair's best friend is a styling product applied when your hair is still damp. This helps lock in moisture and define your curls before they begin to air dry.

4. DON’T: Use High Heat
If you’re using a hairdryer, avoid setting it on high heat. Extreme temperatures can damage your curls and dry out your hair. Always use a diffuser attachment to distribute the heat evenly and protect your beautiful curls.

5. DO: Plop Your Hair
For tighter curls and added volume, try 'plopping' your hair after a wash. Lay a T-shirt or microfibre towel flat, flip your damp curls over onto it, and then wrap the fabric around your head. This helps set the curls without heat and reduces drying time.

6. DON’T: Rush the Drying Process
Let your curls dry completely before heading out or going to bed. Rushing this process or sleeping on damp hair can cause a lot of unwanted frizz and mess up your curl pattern.

7. DO: Refresh Between Washes
If your curls start to droop between wash days, refresh them with a light spritz of water and a dollop of curl cream or gel. This can reactivate the products in your hair and bring back the bounce.
