Managing your scalp health with curly hair

Keep it clean, but gentle
It’s important to cleanse your scalp regularly to prevent build-up of products, oils, and skin cells. Use a gentle cleanser that cleans without stripping your scalp of its natural oils. 

Plenty of curly haired peeps have been told to stop washing their hair. That can be a fast track to a messed up scalp. If you find your head is itchy, flaky or just not quite right, you might need to up your washing routine. If you're going 4 days between washes, bring that down to 3 and see if that makes a difference. 

Massage your worries away
Who doesn’t love a good scalp massage? Use your fingertips to gently massage your scalp while you cleanser. This not only feels amazing but also increases blood circulation and promotes healthy hair growth.

Avoid heat
High heat can irritate your scalp and dry it out. Try to minimise the use of hot tools near your scalp. Opt for air drying your curls when possible. If you're diffusing, direct the dryer away from your scalp.

Watch your diet
Your scalp’s health is also affected by what you eat. Include plenty of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals in your diet to support scalp health and overall hair health.

Listen to your scalp (when it's calling for you)
Pay attention to what your scalp is telling you. If you notice persistent itchiness, flaking, or irritation, it might be time to consult a professional. Sometimes, a little expert advice is what you need to get things back on track.
